American Air Museum

I heard the bad news today that Manston Airfield will be closed in the very near future. The news that this might happen had already gone around, but seems like things are getting official. Too bad cause I would have really liked to make a series about the field like I did with Moorsele. I hope I will get the chance before things close down. The pictures below are also made at a great field in the UK, Duxford. The light falling in from one side in the American Air Museum makes it the ideal place to take some moody black and white photo’s. Up next will be some pictures from a beautiful thing without wings and with four wheels…

Always sad news to hear of an aviation museum’s closing. Though their exhibits will likely (hopefully) be distributed to other museums some of their context will be lost as well as a museum to the local population — making it that much more difficult to involve their children with aviation’s history.

Manston isn’t a museum it’s actually a giant airfield but not profitable… Still sad!
